Let's talk NDIS

What is the NDIS?

The NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It encompasses funding to provide support to Australians living with a disability, their families, and carers. The NDIS takes a lifetime approach, investing in people with a disability to help them achieve their goals including independence, community involvement, education, employment, health and wellbeing.

How do I access the NDIS?

To become a NDIS participant you must:

  • Have a permanent disability that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities
  • Be aged less than 65 when you first enter the NDIS
  • Be an Australian citizen or hold a permanent visa or a Protected Special category visa
  • Live in Australia where the NDIS is available

Find out if you are eligible by visiting the NDIS website.

What is an NDIS provider?

NDIS providers are individuals or organisations that deliver a support service or product to NDIS participants. Each NDIS participant has a Plan that details the goals a participant wants to achieve and the supports the NDIS will fund to achieve those goals. NDIS participants choose which providers they would like to work with for the support they need. There are registered and unregistered providers to choose from, the main difference being that registered providers must undergo rigorous processes to satisfy they are meeting the NDIS Quality Standards to maintain registration. Registered providers are far more accountable for their service. ILSA is proud to be a registered provider.

How do I prepare for NDIS?

When entering the NDIS, you will have an appointment with a NDIS planner. It is important to be prepared in order to get the most out of your NDIS planning session. It is the planning session that helps determine your goals, needs and funding levels. We would be more than happy to assist you in getting prepared so please contact us. You can also visit the NDIS website for assistance in creating your plan.
